Anyone with a vague interest in cryptocurrency or digital art knows that NFTs are currently taking the world by storm.
Marketplaces such as Rarible and OpenSea have meant that up-and-coming artists can sell their digital art pieces to would-be buyers, a purchase that is subsequently logged and authenticated on cryptocurrency blockchains.
The market has however become somewhat saturated over the recent months, with the majority of artists looking to make a quick buck off of the so-called trend. However, a recent NFT collection created by a team in London, UK is doing things a little differently.
So, what does the Blessed Narwhal team have over other NFT creators? The answer… they are giving something back.
The Narwhal team have pledged to donate 10% of every initial NFT purchase to marine conservation charities, which will go towards funding in-situ ocean conservation projects, the restoration of seabeds, and the prevention of marine wildlife slaughter. With donations being split between the Ocean Conservation Trust & Sea Shepard.
This follows in the same footsteps as digital artist Beeple, who famously sold his work “Everydays: The First 5000 Days” for $69 million at Christie’s. Beeple previously spoke on the sustainable future of NFTs, claiming his artwork would offset emissions generated through his personal reinvestment in renewable energy, technology and conservation projects.
The Blessed Narwhal team are continuing to break the ice in this regard and are not stopping there. They are also currently looking into tree planting schemes to supplement their current commitments to marine conservation. Not bad for a collective that is under a month old. Blessed Narwhals are certainly one to watch for the future and a worthwhile investment for the more eco-friendly collector.
