The Digital Transformation in Automotive Industry and Electric Vehicles

Technology is evolving with time, and with that, we see the inclination towards the technology of ‘electrical’. With many other industries, the automotive industry is also evolving and inclining towards bringing vehicles into the era of electrical development. The process is not as easy as it seems to be rather it’s a process that includes longevity, scrutiny, and meticulousness. Every other day, technology doesn’t cease to make headlines. Having said that, new technology tools are being introduced into the automotive market that can be commercially viable and benefit from the development of electric vehicles. With the emerging technology and software, it is aimed to build and introduce the newly emerging tools for automotive companies.

Before going into the depth of electrical vehicles it is important to understand the parts of the electrical vehicles. First, electrical vehicles have a Traction Battery Pack that is used for the transmission of the direct current (DC). Also, it serves as the storage system for the energy in electrical vehicles. The next component is Power Inverter. Power Inverter is used for changing the direction of the current and transferring the types of current thus the current passes interchangeably for the battery purpose especially for recharging the battery. The process goes in the direction of changing Direction and alternative current according to the need of the battery and regenerative the direct current braking. Now comes the third part of electric vehicles and that is called Controller. The controller is used for the regulation of the electrical energy in a vehicle to distribute the energy to the electric motors installed in the system that was taken from the batteries used inside. In this part of the electrical vehicles, the voltage input has its significance that is controlled by the pedal pressed by the driver. Precisely, this component works for torque, handling the speed of the car, determining the frequency of the car, and voltage too. So first, energy is derived from the traction battery which is further distributed and travels to the controller. The last main component used in electrical vehicles is Electric Traction Motor. The work of the motor is rotating the wheels and generation the propulsions. Propulsion can be defined as the act of pushing something forward and in terms of the automotive industry, it’s accelerating the car and the rotation of wheels to push forward the car. The other important components of the electrical vehicles include chargers and it has two different types; off-board charger and on-board charger. Other than that, electrical vehicles have transmission, DC/DC converter (used for transferring the current from higher to lower voltage), Thermal system (for obtaining the optimal temperature), and the charging port. Now that the parts have been discussed and elaborated, the use of electrical vehicles and the technology needed for the accurate development of electrical vehicles will be easier to comprehend.

For electrical vehicles, the development and installation of the electrical software have to be research-based and must be tried-tested before. The significance of doing so lies in the anticipation of analyzing the loopholes aligned with the success of the imitation or simulation process. With strong roots in statistics, research shows that about 10 million electrical vehicles were on the roads in the year 2020. This implies that electrical vehicles are expanding and emerging. It also links to the idea of software and tools with which the electrical vehicles are being equipped.

Coming to the highlight of the topic, Vehicle Simulation Software is the new tech tool in the market that is essential for building accurate and reliable electric vehicles. Considering the essentiality of the software, the software is used in designing and developing electrical vehicles. Maplesoft solutions are fueling the electrical vehicles’ production, development, and functions, to build accurate and reliable electric vehicles. In addition to that, the vehicle control algorithms, level of accuracy, mechanism, and functionality are dependent on the system installed in the car. Artificial intelligence and other types of technologies have to be strong enough that electric vehicles can work reliably without any human intervention. The automotive industry understands the need for the latest technology in order to derive the expected results. The MapleSoftware is further narrowed to MapleSim for research purposes in the era of technological vehicles or EVs.

Another need in the development of electrical vehicles is to optimize them with a multidimensional system that can integrate and work properly for the complex system of the electrical vehicles being manufactured. Another shift brought due to technology is Digital Transformation. Every field and the pertaining areas are undergoing the digital transformation that accentuates the need for technology and its use in electrical vehicles, especially for simulation. Simulation-led design is one of the latest and most accessible technologies that is used for the development and design of complex products. Simple-led design is being used by many companies and organizations to develop the structure virtually for experimentation, analysis, and a thorough check for the structure along with its functionality. It’s easy and more advanced to virtually perform the analysis rather than on the prototype of the products. Simulation-led design is also beneficial for the optimization of the vehicle.

Building an electrical vehicle is costly and time taking, for which the simulation-led designs come to the rescue and assist in speeding up the process, hence saving time. Basically, the simple-led design helps in digitalizing the structure of the product and critically analyze its structure and function for future use. The other benefit of this technology in building vehicles is optimizing the design. Design optimization is another important application of simulation-led design. Even though artificial intelligence is playing a huge role and is expected to take practical tasks, the fact is that human power and brain intelligence can never be overcome and taken over. Simulation-led design is equipped with hardware and software that can animate the shape and structure in alignment with the mathematical values but it is only plausible to reach the optimal design with the human sense and knowledge of design, as technology is unaware of the trends.

There is not only one tech tool development as many new technologies have been introduced. One of them is virtual prototypes for the structure and development of electrical vehicles. Basically, electrical vehicles have transformed digitally and this is the reason that virtual prototypes are more preferred. The virtual prototypes have to be installed with the electro-mechanical-hydraulic-thermal system so that functionality and manufacturability can be achieved.

Considering the technology of vehicle simulation, and Analysis tools. There are various tools used for electrical vehicles. ADOPT: Automotive Deployment Options Projection Tool is one of the analysis and market technology tools used for electronic vehicles. Basically, this tool is used for the analysis of emission, need of energy for the electric vehicle, use of energy, and sales of vehicles. ADOPT tool is used for various purposes, specifically intended for estimation and analysis purposes. Going more into the depths of the tools for electrical vehicles, another important tool is FASTSim. FASTSim stands for Future Automotive Systems Technology Simulator. Basically, the work of the tool is to compare and analyze. Comparing and analyzing are important for the implementation of the technology and innovation in technology for better and fast results. FASTSim is used for a multitude of vehicles in determining the work of vehicles that have either high, medium, or low-level working capacity.

After listing down the technologies, it is important to note that all these technologies are essential for the development of accurate and reliable electric vehicles. Therefore, there are some trends and innovations that have been brought into the automotive industry such as electrification, autonomous vehicles, connectivity, shared mobility, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT). All the innovations demand high-end technology that can work and process as fast as the system is and demands from the technology. Another significant technology is called ‘Automotive Disruption Radar’ (ADR). ADR has made huge changes and progress in the automotive industry as it is involved in the electrification and mobility the electric vehicles. Basically, ADR renders for the estimation and approximation of the trends and analysis. It plays a huge role in building the infrastructure of electrical vehicles.

It must be understood that the electrical vehicles and the ongoing fast pace of technology with its disruptive entry leads to more changes and even accentuates the demands for the change. For this, the infrastructure of any vehicle has to be strong and insightful, and it is only possible when the trends and the innovations are being monitored align with the pre-planning of the companies. For this purpose, the companies must be very informed and well equipped with the information of the new technology bring brought into the market of automotive.

To conclude this, there are various technologies, and each day a new technology walks on the ramp of the tech-based world. It is widespread and bewildering at the same time in the terms of its unimaginable extent and reach throughout the planet. A multitude of technologies and innovations did not cease in the year of pandemic and continues to make highlights every day which is a very good sign of the digital transformation. Digital transformation and the smart cities content are very approachable and considering the buyers of the technology, people are more inclined towards electrical vehicles. Different simulators are being used ad introduced for the development of electrical vehicles and even for the development of software. Simulators and simulation processes can be helpful in achieving the status for further development of new technology and lo equipping the EVs with the software and required hardware. The analytical approach is required to make the changes through the new technology tool and software development for building the accurate and reliable electric vehicle along with the components.
