Holding various positions during her 30 + year career in the insurance industry, Wilma has vast experience in the distribution channel and as an insurance regulator. Wilma’s unique understanding of the insurance regulatory framework gives her a diverse perspective on current licensing, carrier contracting, and appointment processes.
Her career began in the 90s as a life and health insurance agent and she later served as Principal Officer of the Licensee Services Unit at the Puerto Rico Office of the Commissioner of Insurance for more than a decade. During her time at the OCI, she obtained the NAIC Associate in Professional Insurance Regulator designation and attended NIPR Summits and NAIC meetings representing the OCI. She also has experience working at a TPA, an FMO, and served as a Public Affairs Specialist for the Puerto Rico Army National Guard. Wilma spent her college years at the University of Puerto Rico, where she completed a Bachelor of Art in Psychology, coursework towards a Master in Public Administration, and obtained a J.D. from their School of Law.
