General Atomics (GA) and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore potential collaborative projects to support UAE’s nuclear energy programs. The MOU was signed by representatives from both firms during the CERAWeek Conference in Houston, TX.
As part of the MOU, General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS), a group operating within GA, and ENEC will conduct detailed discussions on various projects. These include the use of GA-EMS’ SiGA® cladding for nuclear reactor applications, as well as Fast Modular Nuclear Reactor designs. The use of silicon carbide cladding will improve the safety and affordability of existing light water reactors and minimize their outage time. This innovative material is also crucial for the Department of Energy-funded Fast Modular Reactor (FMR) design and other advanced or Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) that use high temperature to achieve high efficiency in electricity production.
