Tree Peace, a Houston-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization promoting environmental sustainability, announces new fundraising initiatives to fund operations. A new carbon-neutral NFT (non-fungible token) project on the WAX (Worldwide Asset eXchange) blockchain offers businesses and individuals a certified carbon credit to offset their carbon footprint while planting new tree saplings, in addition to a new apparel line.
Tree Peace recently entered the NFT space with two new projects to help generate donations. The first is a limited initial launch of NFTs backed by certified carbon credits. Sales of these carbon-positive NFTs will go to help maintain forests around the country. U.S. taxpayers can claim a charitable contribution deduction for the excess price paid over the NFT’s fair market value. Once an NFT is purchased, it is explicitly linked to carbon credit offsetting emissions, which is retired on its behalf. Buyers can then register on tree-peace.org to receive a tax-deductible letter and/or carbon credit certificate.
Carbon-credit NFTs are backed with Verified Carbon Units (VCU) registered with Verra, a global leader in helping to tackle the world’s most intractable environmental and social challenges. These VCUs utilize the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), which ensures transparency and quality in the creation, quantification, and verification of offset projects through a rigorous assessment process.
The second is a joint effort with the team at MoneyTree to help celebrate the United Nations’ International Day of Forests and World Earth Day. For every MoneyTree NFT sold from March 21 to April 22, the MoneyTree team will donate one dollar to Tree Peace, which they will use to plant one tree sapling as part of its One Dollar, One Tree Promise. Tree Peace is also selling NFTs that plant trees. On the WAX blockchain, buyers can purchase a one-dollar NFT, which will plant one tree. Buyers can help save the planet by planting more trees and reducing their carbon footprint.
