Spearheaded by visionary artist and conceptualist Shuk Orani, alongside project co-developer Dario Gi, an AI artist, and IT specialist, a collective of IT and AI experts has converged to bring this innovative project to life. However, amid the anticipation, we find ourselves contemplating whether this endeavor represents a profound reflection on the interplay between AI and art or merely a technological spectacle designed to captivate audiences.
Shuk Orani’s idea behind this project is undeniably groundbreaking. Recognizing the rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence, he acknowledges the new horizons it opens for artistic expression. The amalgamation of interactive elements and algorithmic approaches holds the promise of a distinctive art experience, enabling viewers to engage actively in the artistic process. Yet, one cannot help but wonder whether the focus lies primarily on artistic substance or if it aims to impress the audience through technological extravagance.
The Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Hamburg willingly embraces this initiative, driven by a desire to foster dialogue about the impact of artificial intelligence on the art world and society. The panel discussion accompanying the project stands as a commendable effort in this regard. However, we must question whether the depth of the conversation surrounding the ethical and social aspects of AI in the arts is sufficient. The upcoming panel discussion, titled “What does AI in art mean for the art world and society?” holds the promise of addressing some of these pressing questions. The distinguished guests for this discussion include:
- Prof. Dr. Andreas Moring: A Professor of Digital Economy, Innovation, and Artificial Intelligence at the International School of Management ISM in Hamburg, as well as the Deputy State Chairman of the FDP Hamburg.
- Shuk Orani: A multimedia artist and conceptual designer, originally from Prishtina, Kosovo, and currently residing in Hamburg. Orani is renowned for his art projects with a social background, as well as his large-scale, abstract-expressionist oil paintings and sculptures. He has recently delved deeply into the realm of AI in art.
- Dario Gibellini: A software producer, ambitious artist in the field of AI art, and founder of the AI artist group PEEZMO. Gibellini’s exhibits employ various AI technologies, ranging from the creation of synthetic emotions to fully automated radio programs and innovative image processing.
Moderation for the discussion will be led by Sarah Weintritt, a cultural manager specializing in the realization of creative, interdisciplinary projects for national and international cultural institutions, ensembles, and festivals. Weintritt’s expertise also extends to funding consultancy, career coaching, and lecturing. The hope is that this discussion will provide impetus for further conversations and critical reflections extending beyond the confines of the evening.
